Hematite
Hematite is a kind of weak magnetic iron ore. It contains single hematite, polymetallic hematite and siderite-magnetite mixture.
Hematite Beneficiation Technology
For single hematite:
Roasting magnetic separation is one of valid methods to separate fine from ultrafine particles (below 0.02mm). When the components are complicated and other beneficiation methods fail to meet related indicators, it is strongly recommended. 2. Gravity separation, flotation, strong magnetic separation and combined process
Flotation is common when separating fine from ultrafine hematite. There are two manners — direct flotation and reverse flotation. Gravity separation and strong magnetic separation are more suitable for the separation of coarse particle (2-20mm).
The use of specific beneficiation method and combined use shall observe types of ores. For polymetallic hematite:
1. The polymetallic hematite mainly refers to hydrothermal or sedimentary hematite and siderite which contains potassium and sulfide. This kind of ores usually adopts gravity separation, flotation, strong magnetic separation or combined separation methods to recycle the iron. Flotation is recommended to recycle the potassium and sulfide. For siderite -magnetite mixture:
1. Single siderite -magnetite mixture
This kind of mineral has two separation methods. One is combined use of weak magnetic separation, gravity separation, flotation and strong magnetic separation where weak magnetic separation is responsible for recycling the magnetic iron ore while other methods are responsible for recycling the iron ore having weak magnetism. The other is the combining process of roasting magnetic separation and other separation methods. 2. Polymetallic siderite -magnetite mixture
The beneficiation method is complicated. Generally, weak magnetic separation and other separation methods would be connected to perform beneficiation.

1. Mining and Extraction
Excavation: The iron ore is extracted from the ground using heavy machinery such as excavators or draglines.
Blasting: In some cases, blasting may be required to break up harder rock formations.
2. Primary Crushing
Jaw Crusher: The extracted ore is first crushed in a jaw crusher to reduce its size. This step reduces the ore to a size suitable for further processing.
3. Secondary Crushing
Cone Crusher: The crushed ore is then passed through a cone crusher for secondary crushing, further reducing the particle size.
4. Screening
Vibrating Screens: After secondary crushing, the ore is screened to separate it into different size fractions. Oversized material is returned to the crusher for reprocessing.
5. Tertiary Crushing (Optional)
Impact Crusher or Cone Crusher: For finer particle sizes, a tertiary crushing stage might be necessary, using an impact crusher or another cone crusher.
6. Grinding
Ball Mill: The crushed and screened ore is fed into a ball mill where it is ground into a fine powder. Balls made of steel or other materials inside the mill help to grind the ore.
Rod Mill: Sometimes a rod mill is used instead of a ball mill, particularly if a coarser product is desired.
7. Classification
Spiral Classifier: The ground ore is classified using a spiral classifier, which separates the slurry into fine and coarse particles based on their size and density.
8. Beneficiation (Optional)
Magnetic Separation: If the ore contains impurities, magnetic separation can be used to remove them. Magnetic separators use magnetic fields to separate magnetic minerals from non-magnetic ones.
Flotation: Flotation is another method used for separating valuable minerals from gangue (waste) by taking advantage of differences in surface chemistry.
9. Drying (Optional)
Dryers: Depending on the final application, the ground and beneficiated ore may need to be dried before packaging.
10. Packaging and Storage
Bagging Machines: The final product is packaged into bags or bulk containers for storage and transportation.

Pellets: Typically around 10mm in diameter, used in blast furnaces for steel production.
Concentrates: Fine powders that have been beneficiated, often less than 200 mesh (74 microns), used in direct reduction processes.
Lumps: Larger pieces, usually between 10mm and 40mm, used in sintering operations.
